Energy Medicine and Clairvoyance: A Scientific Approach

Voyance et médecine énergétique

Introduction

We are immersed in a field of energies. This energy is at our disposal and can be used for good or ill, depending on the choice made by each of us. It can therefore be used for healing, and I wanted to share with you first the results of a research that focused not only on energy medicine such as Reiki but also on the possibilities of accessing the information conveyed by these energy fields by what is called a clairvoyant.

This study, original enough to be noted, was carried out by an American institute, IONS (Institute of Noetic Sciences – https://noetic.org/). This institute is interested in everything that science does not yet explain, particularly non-physical phenomena.

What is energy medicine?

Energy medicine uses the energy fields mentioned above and channels them to a given point. The English term is Channeling, that is, the process of receiving and using information or energy, not limited by our conventional notions of time and space.

Objective and results of the IONS study

Some “energy medicine” modalities, such as Reiki, continue to demonstrate efficacy, but the underlying mechanisms of action remain unclear. To help illuminate these mechanisms, this exploratory mixed-method study (using qualitative and quantitative analyses) examined:

  1. How Energy Medicine Sessions Work : how do they work from the point of view of a clairvoyant, that is, a person trained in techniques for perceiving subtle energies?

  2. Correlation with pain : is there a correlation between these observations and changes in participants' subjective pain?

Methodology of the study

A psychic described their observations during 30-minute energy medicine sessions delivered by 17 practitioners to participants with chronic hand or wrist pain. Data were coded using an inductive approach, followed by thematic and descriptive analyses. Content analysis determined whether each code was mentioned by the psychic for each participant, generating 119 binary variables, one for each code. The relationship between these binary variables and the change in participants' pain scores after the session and three weeks later was explored using linear regression models.

Results obtained

Qualitative thematic analysis identified six main themes from the psychic's notes:

  • Practitioner experience

  • Participant Experience

  • Space and other beings (qualities of physical space and supposed presence of non-physical beings during the session)

  • Participant-practitioner relationship

  • Healing process

  • Attributes of energy

Energy medicine methods varied depending on the perceived needs of each practitioner for each individual. Linear regression models revealed significant associations between changes in pain scores and various codes (energy color, practitioner touch, presence of nonphysical beings), although their statistical significance did not persist after correction for multiple comparisons.
