Following my research on retirees who have decided to move abroad, I am pleased to announce that I will be participating in the symposium organized by SMN (Scientific and Medical Network) on July 22 and 23. The symposium is in English, but you can activate the subtitles.

Here is a summary of the topic:
In 2018, Finaccord predicted that by 2021, the number of expatriates will reach approximately 87.5 million. Among them, retirees will represent 5 %, or approximately 4.6 million. However, while there is a lot of academic research on forced immigration or expatriate workers, there is very little literature on retirees who have chosen to live abroad, as death and old age may be taboo subjects in Western societies; hence the present research, which can contribute to the understanding of this phenomenon,
A new class of citizens is emerging, symbolized by the archetypes of the wise old man and the traveler, promoting transnationalism and multiculturalism and seeking novelty and freedom.
Using organic inquiry as a research method, the dynamics underlying the decision to move abroad are explored, as well as the transformation process experienced not only by expatriate retirees, but also by the host and home countries. The psychological and spiritual consequences are examined from a transpersonal perspective, that is, by focusing on the transformation of the self, the unfolding of a new identity, and the emergence of a different level of consciousness.
Three main themes emerged from this research:
- The multidimensionality of the causes of departure;
- The transformational and stimulating dimension of the expatriate retiree's journey which makes it impossible to return to their country of origin, and
- The impact of their decisions on multiculturalism and transnationality.
